Our walk through Athens shows impressions from our stay in Athens. We start our walk next to the convention center. In the park you see a statue of Eleftherios Venizelos, a Greek prime minister who is still admired today. No matter where you move in Athens, almost everywhere you have an unobstructed view of the Acropolis or the Lycabettus with the beautiful little chapel. We continue our way to the Plaka and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. It is the largest Greek temple in Athens. The Temple of Olympian Zeus was completed in the 2nd century AD by the Roman Emperor Hadrian. In the Middle Ages, the temple was presumably destroyed by an earthquake. Nevertheless, the remaining columns impress by their size . The gate which originally marked the entrance into the sacred district is named after ...

EPISODE 5 - Plaka is the district to the north of the Acropolis that corresponds pretty much to the centre of the ancient city of Athens, and retains that old, timeless feeling. Modernity hasn't penetrated much into Plaka, which keeps its old tavernas and cafes, as well as elegant examples of 19th century neoclassical architecture. A walk through Plaka can turn up all kinds of delights.

Athens, Greece, is one of the oldest cities in the world, but don’t think you won’t find modern conveniences. Since the 2004 Olympics, Greece has poured massive amounts of funding into improving Athens’ infrastructure with an updated airport, highway system, and metro railway. Tips: Visit the Acropolis and Parthenon in the morning to beat the crowds and heat. Plan on spending at least two hours to visit the Acropolis Museum and stay for lunch. At the Temple of Zeus, marvel at the largest temple in the country that took 700 years to build. Just to the north of the Acropolis, you’ll find the ancient Agora of Athens, where Greeks used to congregate. http://ancient-greece.org/archaeology/agora.html For retail therapy, we recommend three places: the Taveria Plaza, the flea markets of Monas...
I spent five days in Athens to attend the www.tbexcon.com Europe, staying in a gorgeous Airbnb just off the centre and with a couple of days on the end to walk the city. A favourite thing to do wherever I visit. It truly is a place that took me by surprise. I felt very much at home here with the pastel-toned hues, secret gardens archeological sites, significant history, cool restaurants and coffee shops. All manned by impressive looking hipsters. The fashion, street art and yogurt smothered in honey. On my last day Trafalgar Travel offered me a guided visit to the Acropolis and an afternoon of additional insight into this place where democracy was born. It certainly brought the Athens magic to life. Here is a look at some of the sights and sounds. Do see www.trafalgar.com for informatio...
